DOUGZ selected as one of S&S Cycle’s 50th
Anniversary builders
Earlier this year I received a call from Brett Smith – President
of S&S Cycle – asking if I was interested in being one of 50 builders to
complete a bike in celebration of their 50th Anniversary. How could
I turn down a once in a lifetime opportunity like that? I am so honored to have
DOUGZ included in this celebration and look forward to next June when the La
Crosse area will host this awesome event and will bring in some of the best
known builders in the world including Arlen and Cory Ness as well as Cory’s son
Zach, Donnie Smith, Brian Klock, the Teutul’s, Jim Nasi, and so many
more. DOUGZ will compete head-to-head with Arlen, Jim Nasi
, the Orange County boys, Marcus Walz and others in
the X-Wedge engine category and fully intend to show our competitors what else
comes out of Wisconsin besides the fabulous S&S powerplants,
beer, cheese and the Packers!
Recently I had the good fortune to
have Brian Wiste apply for employment here at the
shop and I am happy to say he is now on board. Brian ‘cut his teeth’ so to
speak just up the road at Holmen Custom & Collision over the past 3 years
and came over to lend a hand in keeping up with our ever-deepening schedule.
Brian is a graduate of Wyo-Tech where he studied
Collision refinishing and Hot Rod fabrication and he is a self taught airbrush
artist. His work is gracing the La Crosse area and his desire is to expand on
that by showing the WORLD what he’s capable of. We are hoping to get more of
our projects featured in magazines where Brian’s work will be displayed.
Recent projects
We recently
finished a 4th helmet for Chip Ellis. Chip, along with Matt
Smith and Peggy Llewellyn, are piloting S&S
powered Pro-Stock motorcycles in the NHRA Powerade
Series and all 3 are in the top 4 in the ‘Countdown to the finals’. Keep an
eye on ESPN2 over the next few weeks and cheer on our favorite riders!
Our buddy Randy Winchel
– designer of the famed ‘FrameLock’ motorcycle transporting hold-down device had
us shoot his Screamin’ Eagle Road King to match
his Screamin’ Eagle Deuce and if anyone reading
this is going to Biketoberfest, look for the FrameLock display and you’re sure to find the King.

Current
projects
Last week Tom Riek
rode in his Street Glide from across the state for a total custom paint job.
With custom wheels and a pile of chrome goodies already installed on this scoot
my guess is this will be a magazine quality bike when finished… hopefully one
of the editors will feel the same? Tom learned of our work from another of our
great clients Jim Putman who owns the Loose Cannon bagger that was featured in
the Jan. 2007 issue of American Iron Magazine. Jim is convinced we got the
paint job on Jay Leno’s bike because Jay saw the
feature on the Cannon and knew he had to have a Genuine DOUGZ paint job… he
might be right!!
Also we’ve gotten word that my bud
Brian Klock and his team of magicians over at Klockwerks will be building a custom bagger for Randy Winchel. This will be the official FrameLock
Bike which will be on display at all the major industry events and rallies in
2008 beginning with the V-Twin Expo in Cincinnatti
this coming February. We’re excited to be a part of this way-cool project -
working with Randy is a pleasure and it’ll be our first time working with Brian
so we’re pumped!
In the last Enewz
I mentioned our winter schedule had us booked into April. Well that’s changed
now that we have Brian Wiste on board! My personal
schedule is very cramped but has been free’d up by
the addition of Brian’s talent here at the shop. So if you have a paint or
conversion project in mind for this winter, give us a call or email and we’ll
get you all rigged up!
We DO have plenty of room on our
current and winter schedule for any CHROME EXCHANGE work. We have Genuine H-D
fork legs, brake calipers & handlebar controls all chromed up, IN STOCK,
and ready to be installed by DOUGZ ace wrench – Terry Miller. Or if Custom
wheels or any kind of accessory add-ons have your mind buzzing give us a call
and we’ll get you in right away, or we’ll lock you in for the winter months if
that’s what you prefer. We have access to every stinkin’
wheel and tire manufacturer as well as any aftermarket custom accessories you
desire, and would LOVE to have the opportunity to work with you.
My own personal ride, the ‘Convertible Bagger’
is up FOR SALE. The Convertible was a feature bike in the Jan/Feb 2007
issue of IronWorks Magazine. I’ve been working (at a glacial pace) on the next ‘shop’
bike which will also be a bagger and when its
complete I think there will be some pretty surprised folks when they
realize what I started with. Here’s your chance to own a true one-of-a-kind custom bagger for a fraction of what it would cost to make a
custom out of a bone stocker. Own this
beautiful machine for $29,500.00 More images and details at: http://www.dougz.com/custom_bikes.php?sgid=55

Our Hours
We’ve had many people inquiring why we are open ‘By Appointment
Only’. It would seem on the surface, like that is a poor way to run a business,
but on the contrary I’ve found that this system works the best for us. I
recognize this wouldn’t work for most business’s, and is an unusual way of
doing things, but you have to admit, we’re in an unusual business. Heck – they
make TV SHOWS about this stuff! Most of
what we do here is CUSTOM and when something is CUSTOM it generally
takes time and concentration, and needless interruptions just slows the
process. To eliminate time wasting we’re forced to keep the ‘tire kickers’ out
and unfortunately we inadvertently keep out people who are serious about having
us do a project for them.
So PLEASE don’t feel like we’re not
interested in your project - WE ARE! Virtually every project starts out with a
phone call or email to make an appointment, so I can set aside the time that
each of our clients DESERVE! Most of the
time I’ll be happy to see you the same day, just call ahead! 1-608-783-3684 or email me at doug@dougz.com .
Go ahead and forward this mailing to
whomever you’d like & tell them to mail their request to us at info@dougz.com and we’ll put
them on our mailing list.
If you no
longer want to receive DOUGZ Enewz, just
let us know and we’ll sadly remove you from our mailing list.
